Be a Mentor - VCCS

WHAT IS A MENTOR?

People often wonder what it means to be a mentor.  A mentor is: “Someone who acts as an advisor or coach for a mentee. They provide expertise and professional knowledge from a more experienced perspective.”

A mentor is someone who shares  – their knowledge, experience, expertise and perspective with someone looking for some guidance and support.  To be a good mentor, you don’t have to be super smart or incredibly wise! You just need to be a good listener who is eager to share!

WHY BE A MENTOR?

There are lots of reasons. For example:

  • You can learn about your COMMUNITY.
  • You can increase your own KNOWLEDGE.
  • You can be a stronger LEADER!
  • You can FEEL REALLY GOOD about yourself!

I AM A MENTOR BECAUSE…

I enjoyed my career as a teacher and I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had. I know that a supportive environment can make a world of difference to the outcomes. For me, it is rewarding to engage with VCCS Mentees and to help  them to see their self-confidence and prospects for gaining meaningful employment improve.
