People often wonder what it means to be a mentor. A mentor is: “Someone who acts as an advisor or coach for a mentee. They provide expertise and professional knowledge from a more experienced perspective.”
A mentor is someone who shares – their knowledge, experience, expertise and perspective with someone looking for some guidance and support. To be a good mentor, you don’t have to be super smart or incredibly wise! You just need to be a good listener who is eager to share!
There are lots of reasons. For example:
“I enjoyed my career as a teacher and I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had. I know that a supportive environment can make a world of difference to the outcomes. For me, it is rewarding to engage with VCCS Mentees and to help them to see their self-confidence and prospects for gaining meaningful employment improve.”
“Being a mentor gives me the opporutnity to give back to my community by sharing my unique experiences I gained during 39 years in business. Sharing the lessons I have learned, to help others, gives me a personal feeling of satisfaction and pride.”
